So Also Is Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12)

For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:12)

The phrase “so also is Christ” shows the unity between the Lord Jesus Christ and His church, His body. We are under His name, like a married couple of this world. The rhetorical question is answered in the negative: “Is Christ divided?” (1 Corinthians 1:13).

The natural division in the Old Testament between the Jews and the nations is also eliminated. “For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us” (Ephesians 2:14).

This is something that was not seen in the Old Testament, in which it is called a mystery. “That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel” (Ephesians 3:6).

The cross eliminated the separation between us and God because of our sin, but it also eliminated the division between the Jews and the Gentiles within the church. All such natural dividing was eliminated by the cross.
