Sinners to Repentance (Mark 2:16-17)

When Levi decided to follow Jesus, he threw a party, inviting all his friends. The motive is likely so that they might all meet Jesus. His friends were all like him: tax collectors and other people that were frowned upon in society.
And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (Mark 2:16-17)
Jesus came to people such as these: the people who knew they needed a Savior. It is ironic that it was the religious that rejected Jesus. They saw themselves as righteous who needed no Savior.
All need the Savior, Jesus Christ. There are only two types of people: those who know it, and those who are kidding themselves.
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. (Luke 19:10)
