There Shall Be Showers of Blessing (Ezekiel 34:26)

And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing. (Ezekiel 34:26)

This is a quote from a famous Christian song, but this verse is where it came from. Let us look at the context of this verse.

After false shepherds have misled His people, the Lord promised, “I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment” (Ezekiel 34:16). This should remind you of the words of the Lord Jesus Christ, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10).

The Lord will humble the strong and bind up the weak, using language similar to the judgment of the sheep and the goats in Matthew 25.

God will set up the Lord Jesus over His people, using the name David as a type: “And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. And I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the LORD have spoken it” (Ezekiel 34:23-24).

The Lord then mentions the new covenant: “And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods” (Ezekiel 34:25). Then we have our verse of interest after this: “...there shall be showers of blessing.” The Lord tells us that He “hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3). There have been showers of blessing, and we will see them again in the hour we see Him face to face.
