Seraiah Was a Quiet Prince (Jeremiah 51:59)

Seraiah, likely a brother to Baruch, was a prince that went with Zedekiah to Babylon. Just as Baruch years before, Seraiah took the written word from Jeremiah. This time, this word was to be read in Babylon concerning its future destruction. He then would cast this book, bound to a stone, into the Euphrates, saying, “Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be weary” (Jeremiah 51:64).

The otherwise quiet people, like this “quiet prince,” have times to speak up boldly to proclaim the Word of God, even amid adversaries. Seraiah was preaching against Babylon on their turf.

Also, when we read of Mystery Babylon, we see similar language: “And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all” (Revelation 18:21). Even in these times we are called to proclaim the Word of God in a hostile land.
