Seeking Diligently

Hebrews 11:6: “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. I want to be remembered as one who diligently seeks God. We all have our preconceived notions as to what God is like, and if these notions are found in the Bible, then we have a clearer picture than most.

But the Apostle Paul in Philippians 3 establishes his life’s purpose to know Jesus Christ. He had abandoned all for the cause of Jesus Christ and gospel preaching:

Philippians 3:8-11: “Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.”

Included in knowing Jesus is abandoning all of our ephemeral trophies to know Christ. To know Christ is to come to the Cross and empty ourselves of every burden we have known. And to live for him is to know persecution, which we are hardly acquainted with in our society, but it is written: “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12). Surely we need to look at our lives to see if we pursue Jesus with all of our being. Surely there is always more of us to leave behind as we journey together with him.
