The Sons of Sceva

Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? (Acts 19:13-15)

These men who tried to cast out the evil spirit showed a very interesting truth. Demons know the name of Jesus and the names of those who belong to Him. Their reciting of words did nothing to help the man who was possessed; rather, they were injured greatly.

However, this event caused a repentance among those who had professed Christ. They still dabbled in the occult, but when they heard this demon feared the name of Jesus, this caused them to fear and to forsake their old ways. The repentance was so great that the idol makers stopped making money!

The forces of darkness know the name of Jesus, but impostor Christians will be exposed by them.
