Satan as the Accuser

2025-01-23

And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. (Revelation 12:10)

We often hear sermon illustrations about how heaven is like a courtroom, where God is the judge, Satan accuses us because of our sinfulness, but Jesus defends us and pleads on our behalf as intercessor and our defense. This illustration is true. Satan constantly accuses believers before God, as we see here.

This perfectly is displayed in Zechariah 3:1-10. Satan resisted Joshua, but the LORD rebuked him, saying, “The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?” (Zechariah 3:2).

The BRANCH, the Lord Jesus Christ, has plucked us also out of the fire, and forever intercedes for us.
