Right in His Own Eyes (Judges 17:6)

In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes. (Judges 17:6)

This verse sums up the book of Judges perfectly. After 16 chapters of the idolatry-repentance-deliverer cycle, the last five chapters are a horror of idolatry, syncretism, anarchy, sexual immorality, rape, violence, and civil war. Without their God, this is what Israel looked like, and what depraved humanity looks like when there is no submission to God.

But doing that which is right in our eyes sounds good, right? We all want to get what we want. However, the end of Judges is the result of humanity all seeking their own happiness without regard for their fellow countrymen or the God that repeatedly delivered them.
