Till There Was No Remedy (2 Chronicles 36:16)

How bad can things get before society reaches a point of no return? Where does this point occur?

And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy. (2 Chronicles 36:15-16)

When a society has plenty of witness to the God of Creation, but mocks Him on a widespread scale, you are there. When there is evidence of God’s compassion, but it is rejected, you are there.

This is what happened to the kingdom of Judah. The days of King Josiah and blessing were behind them. The subsequent kings and people were evil. They were subjected to and even chosen by other regional powers. The final king, Zedekiah, swore an oath to serve the king of Babylon, and broke it. He rejected Jeremiah’s preaching. So few people responded to the Word of God in those days.

When you start to see that in a society, you are there.
