The Redeemer Shall Come to Zion (Isaiah 59:18-20)

2023-06-19

According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence. So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD. (Isaiah 59:18-20)

The coming of the Lord brings despair to His enemies and hope to His people. The enemy can expect a full paying back for his rebellion. Those who hope in the Lord will be saved.

One thing that is good news, even for the enemy, is that they can stop being enemies, fear the Lord, and turn from transgression. Anticipation of this judgment turns enemies to allies.

The whole Trinity will fight against the enemy. When the enemies come to destroy the Lord’s people, the Spirit will go against them. The Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ, will come to Zion to rule over His people. It is the Father who has decreed this where it says, “saith the LORD.”

With this trifold testimony against wickedness and for His people, we trust in the Word of the Lord to be saved from His wrath when He comes.
