When I Shall Receive the Congregation I Will Judge Uprightly (Psalm 75:2)

To the chief Musician, Altaschith, A Psalm or Song of Asaph. Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly. The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah. (Psalm 75:1-3)

In this psalm of Asaph, we see a reference to the rapture. Many portions of the psalm show us this is the case. First, in the title, we read “Altaschith,” which means “destroy not.” In these opening verses, we see thanksgiving and praising of God. Then, we see that judgment will follow the receiving of His congregation. This judgment consists of destroying the earth.

In Psalm 75:4-7, we see calls for humility, and that “promotion,” or lifting up, does not come from anywhere on earth, but from God only.

Then, we see language used in the book of Revelation. “For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them” (Psalms 75:8). This is a worldwide judgment. Compare this with the following: “And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb” (Revelation 14:9-10).

Again, a few verses later in Revelation, we see the Son of Man saving His people from the world and then the angels pouring out judgment on the earth. The next chapter shows the redeemed in heaven: “And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God. And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God” (Revelation 15:1-2).

Your hope does not come from this world. Look up, for our God comes for us.
