With Quietness
2023-08-19
Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. (2 Thessalonians 3:12)
Quietness implies silence, and it is translated elsewhere as such. In this passage, which focuses on the importance of working and not being lazy, it implies that we are focused on and devoted to our work. Though everything around us may be cacophonous, we work diligently as to the Lord. This work supplies our own needs like food.
Again, we read, “And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing” (1 Thessalonians 4:11-12). The good work we do is for testimony’s sake. People that work with you do not want a lazy coworker. Let the world see that we live intentionally and add value to the world so they can see the Spirit of God in us. Let us be led by Him in our daily conversation.
