Protecting Your Spiritual Life (Nehemiah 13:7-8)

Nehemiah made many reforms while he was governor in Jerusalem. In Nehemiah 13, we see he strove to protect the people from marrying into pagan cultures, to purify the priesthood, and to protect the Sabbath day.
Some of these things do not apply to our situation today. However, we can learn from Nehemiah’s reforms. He learned from history and from the Scriptures. He was zealous to protect the people from following the same path that led to exile the first time.
Anything that is a threat to our spiritual lives, our families, and our churches should likewise be quickly eradicated with the same zeal:
And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God. And it grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the chamber. (Nehemiah 13:7-8)
