The Prize

2024-02-05

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14)

There is a reward for abandoning the baggage in your life and putting everything into seeking Jesus Christ. Our identity in Christ is the loftiest vocation there is. We are invited to the fullest life there is to live both now and forever. I am equipped in Him to serve Him with the assignment He has given me. It is the same with you.

Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. (1 Corinthians 9:24)

Not everyone receives the prize. In an earthly race, only one does. To get the prize, you put everything you have into the race. You play to win. In the Christian race, I can’t say that you are competing against those others who race. However, you run to win, and help others in this race also. A strange race, perhaps, but we stir each other up to win that prize. And contrary to what the racing layman might say, it is a sprinting marathon. Let us press forward and upward together.
