Pilate and Herod

Can you imagine a day when the greatest of enemies get together and become friends? The Democrat and Republican politicians suddenly agree. The “Squad” and the MAGA enthusiasts shake hands. The Koreas become allies. The communist and the capitalist work together. All enmity between every faction, sect, ideology, and nation will end. They will set aside their differences and unite under a common cause. How could this happen?

When it comes to Jesus Christ.

Do not get me wrong; there are disciples of Jesus Christ scattered throughout many of the previous groups mentioned. However, the much greater part of the world rejects Jesus Christ.

We see former enemies uniting against Christ in the Scriptures, both historically and eschatologically.

And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves. (Luke 23:12)

Pilate and Herod were enemies but became friends to crucify Jesus. The Pharisees and the Sadducees were together with them condemning Him.

In the future, the world’s armies will unite to fight against Christ when He returns:

And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. (Revelation 19:19)

When you see warring factions in our world today, know that they will one day unite against the Lord. We need to choose His cause. Jesus Christ does not choose the side of any of these worldly sects, for it is written:

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. (Joshua 5:13-14)
