I and My Father Are One (John 10:30)

I and my Father are one. (John 10:30)
Previously, we saw how Jesus was equal with the Father. This verse is similar in that Jesus and the Father are equal but not the same.
For example, consider marriage: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). The man and his wife are one flesh, but that does not make them the same person or have the same body!
Again, we read in the High Priestly Prayer: “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me” (John 17:22-23). God’s people are to be one as the Father and the Son are. They are not all the same person, but rather they are one in purpose in the Lord, as specified in Ephesians 4:1-6.
