What makes us think we are on the Lord’s side?

When we read a book or watch a movie, we tend to associate with the protagonist. We think we are on the hero’s side and live vicariously through him or through her.
We then take that very same notion and read the Holy Scriptures in the same fashion. “The Father, and Jesus, and Peter and John and Paul and the rest of the gang, these are our folks. They are on our side.” God is reduced to another one of our cheerleaders in our short existence. No, what matters is if you are on the Lord’s side. You very well might be fighting on the wrong side.
The Spirit recounts, “...there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come.” (Joshua 5:13-14).
Or as missionary Paul Washer said in a sermon, “I don’t know why you’re clapping, I’m talking about you.”
Take heed how you read the Scriptures. He is talking about you.
