He Was Numbered with the Transgressors (Isaiah 53:12; Mark 15:28)

Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:12)
And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left. And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors. (Mark 15:27-28)

When the Lord was crucified, He was crucified with the two thieves, who were being punished for actual sins they committed. The Lord, always righteous, was condemned with the guilty. One of those thieves received mercy from the Lord.

But saying that the thieves were the only transgressors He was numbered with is only part of the story. “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit” (1 Peter 3:18). He identified with each of us, bearing the punishment for our sins. He is risen, and in heaven, He makes intercession for us today.
