Whatsoever Is Not of Faith Is Sin (Romans 14:23)

2022-06-21

And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. (Romans 14:23)

The context for this verse is to not cause others to stumble because your freedom in Christ harm other Christians’ faith. This would be those who observe certain diets or holidays. However, the latter part of the verse I want to focus on, because it is true is in all circumstances: “...whatsoever is not of faith is sin” (Romans 14:23).

Everything we do, if it draws from the strength of the old man, is not of faith. The flesh cannot please God. It is by faith in the Son of God that we can please Him; it is the only way to please God. Then He can work through us His perfect will. Whatever we do, it must be by faith, or it will always be sin.
