No Man That Warreth Entangleth Himself (2 Timothy 2:4)

No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. (2 Timothy 2:4)

But so many people who name the name of Christ get entangled. But does the word not say, “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world” (Galatians 6:14). If we disentangled from the world system, how much different would the world look today? How many more would be saved? How much more savory would the salt and light be? How much more joy would there be in tribulation?

But what is the negative of what the Spirit says above? The entangled man that warreth does not please Him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. That perfect work of Christ has not impacted such a soldier. They are the double minded man who refused for his eye to be single. He was pleased to be saved by the blood of Jesus and went no further.

If we were bought with the blood and placed in the heavenlies by His grace, how can our feet still be so firmly planted in this world? Why do we look over our shoulder in mourning, like Lot’s wife, at the ashes of Sodom? Why do we put our hand to plow and look back?
