No Greater Joy (3 John 1:4)

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. (3 John 1:4)

Gaius was the recipient of 3 John. John loved this man, as he “walked in truth.” He may not necessarily have been in good health, but he was in the best spiritual health. Fellow Christians had told John how Gaius’ life matched the faith he professed.

It is one thing to know the truth, but what a wondrous thing it is to walk in it. This was the apostle John’s greatest joy.

Examples of Gaius’ walking in truth included housing missionaries. He took them into his home and helped them on their way. This was not without opposition, as a certain Diotrephes was throwing such people out of the church. Walking in truth is not without cost.

Know the truth, but always walk in the truth.

Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. (Psalms 86:11)
