A New and Living Way (Hebrews 10:19-20)

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh (Hebrews 10:19-20)

Unlike the Old Testament, where countless millions of sacrifices were made, Jesus sacrificed Himself once. There was no need for Him to sacrifice a second time, for the Father accepted Him, and because He rose again. The Lord completed what was never complete with the blood of bulls and goats in the Old Testament. The animal sacrifices stayed dead. Jesus is alive forever.

Now that the death of sacrifice is past, we are now a part of that living way with our Lord. We were dead with Him, but now we are alive forever with Him. “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1). We now present ourselves a living sacrifice because Jesus was a living sacrifice. He died once, and He now lives forever. No animal sacrifice of blood will be accepted anymore; we now present our bodies as alive from the dead. “Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God” (Romans 6:13). We present even our bodies as living sacrifices, set apart from sin to the Lord.

The Lord’s way into the holiest was not for Him alone. He has brought us with Him there. He also made this pattern for us that as we sojourn here now, we will follow Him in this living way, for He consecrated that way for us.

We may be positioned with Him in the holiest, but neither we nor anybody else will experience or benefit from this if we do not walk in the new and living way by faith.
