Nadab and Abihu

Numbers 3:4: “And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in the sight of Aaron their father.”

This passage refers to a case where two men decided to willfully go against what God had prescribed for them as priests. We often like to skip over passages like this when thinking about our relationship with God. We much prefer the passages on love and grace. But God demands personal holiness in our lives. He hates it when we intentionally trample all over his grace to do what is right in our own eyes. If it is in your heart to sin against God, think again. He hates sin, and we need to fear the repercussions of our sin: certain judgment. Not only that, why do we look to take advantage of the grace that bought us? We need to keep the Lord holy in our eyes in all of our actions.
