Micah the Morasthite

The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem. (Micah 1:1)
Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest. Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear the LORD, and besought the LORD, and the LORD repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls. (Jeremiah 26:18-19)
Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest. (Micah 3:12)

The prophet Micah the Morasthite was the same man who wrote the book bearing his name. The Word of the Lord through his preaching was what caused Hezekiah to turn to the Lord. If you ever wondered why Hezekiah turned out better than his father Ahaz, this prophet Micah was the reason.

Micah preached how Jerusalem would be destroyed. Hezekiah turned to the Lord and the Lord spared the king and the city. In Jeremiah’s day, some of the elders appealed to this historical event so that perhaps they would listen to the Word of the Lord given to Jeremiah and save the city.

Jeremiah’s life was spared that day, but there was no repentance from the king or the city of Jerusalem. The city was destroyed in Jeremiah’s lifetime.

When we preach the Word of the Lord, we never know when we will be like Micah, and people will turn to the Lord Jesus in faith and be saved from the coming wrath. However, we also could have Jeremiah’s experience, and they will not listen.
