Lot’s Preaching

2016-01-09

Tonight was a night to be remembered. I have never been as convicted about getting the gospel to the lost in a very long time. It takes a lot to bring me to tears, but sure enough, tonight I was there.

And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place: For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it. And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law. (Genesis 19:12-14)

Abraham pleaded for the city of Sodom before the LORD destroyed it. Lot, as backslidden as he was, when warned of the angels about the city, immediately went out into the city to warn his family of the impending destruction of the city.

Living in Sodom

We are living in the very same situation today. It does not matter where in the world you live, because God is going to thrust the full weight of His wrath onto this planet that has rejected Him.

“Oh, but those guys in Sodom were the worst kind of sinners in every way!” And so are you, and so am I. Apart from the grace of God, the men of Sodom is exactly what we would look like.

Preaching Christ

Unlike Lot’s day, however, we have greater opportunity: “And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day” (Matthew 11:23). There is a Savior that can save every single person who believes. But we have to give them the message. God has chosen us to be that messenger.

When Lot left Sodom, he left his sons-in-law behind, and who knows what other relatives. Nobody listened to him. But what about us? We cannot wait until the eleventh hour to start warning people about God’s wrath, and the solution to escaping that wrath in the Lord Jesus. We have time now. We must tell them.
