Because the LORD Loved You (Deuteronomy 7:7-8)

Why did God love His people in the Old Testament? It is because He chose to. There was nothing intrinsic about the nation of Israel for Him to cause His love; He just loved them. Consider the following:

The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. (Deuteronomy 7:7-8)

To earn God’s love is to put the cart before the horse. He loved His people, therefore He delivered them out of Egypt.

How much more is this true today considering the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Everyone must understand, you do not need to find a reason to be loved by God. He loves you, having sent His Son to die for you. He chose to do this. Love is a choice, and it involves action. Therefore, love toward us was His choice and was demonstrated by Christ’s death.
