He Is the Living God (Daniel 6:26-27)

How is the God of the Bible different from everything else that is called God? He is the living God; He created all and is distinct from His creation. Nothing else can fit that description. Because He lives and is sovereign, He can do all things. One of those things that He does is deliver His people, for the idols can do nothing. Consider the words of King Darius:

I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end. He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions. (Daniel 6:26-27)

The king knew what he saw and declared it to the entire kingdom. God preserved Daniel all night in the lions’ den, yet his accusers did not survive one minute. If the Creator God is that great deliverer and sustainer of all things, He alone is steadfast, and will endure forever. He works in time and space though He transcends both. Let everyone “tremble and fear before the God of Daniel... who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”
