Live in the Spirit (Galatians 5:24-25)

2022-07-27

Before we can walk in the Spirit, we must know and believe that we live in the Spirit.

And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Galatians 5:24-25)

Note the objective (live in the Spirit) versus the subjective (walk in the Spirit). See that with justification we have the Spirit, but in sanctification, we learn to live by Him. What is true for us positionally in heaven (life) is to become true for us experientially here on earth (walk).

Every Christian has the Spirit and has new life in Him. Walking in the Spirit is relying on the Spirit every day. Without Him, we will use our own resources, bearing the fleshy fruit enumerated in Galatian 5:19-21. Now that we have the Spirit, we must rely on Him daily, knowing that our old nature is crucified with Christ.

Trusting in Christ and relying on His Spirit, we no longer walk in the flesh, but in the Spirit. This is faith, and it “worketh by love” or service (Galatians 5:6). This working of love is from the Spirit and the fruit thereof is enumerated in Galatians 5:22-23. It is a matter of source. Are you relying on your own resources or God’s resources? You will know how you walk by what fruit you bear.

The Gospel is both forgiveness of sins and deliverance from sin.
