The Light of Life in Jesus

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12)

The only way to walk in light is to follow Jesus. We cannot provide our own light. Within ourselves apart from Jesus, there is only darkness. How great is that darkness. Our sin is an endless evil horror that never sleeps. There is nothing good within or without. Jesus is the only one who lead us out of that darkness. We must behold His brightness.

But I am born again! Doesn’t that make me free from the darkness? The flesh is never improved, and though we may hate our sin, we find ourselves wanting a righteousness that is not the Lord’s. Without following Jesus in His light, there is no other light. He continually reveals how dark the darkness is. This makes His light all the sweeter.
