The Law of the Spirit of Life

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:2)

In ourselves, we naturally sin and are like death. I know this from experience. In and of myself, I am most miserable. Whether it be things I have done or said, or even the thoughts that I think, I know that I am walking death. We all are most acquainted with ourselves the most. We can observe the actions of others, but only we know our thoughts. “For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him?” (1 Corinthians 2:11). Because we are the only ones who know our own thoughts, we know how horrid we really are if we will admit it. We are our own worst critic, and rightfully so.

However, once we are born again, we receive the life of Christ. “But I don’t feel or act any different.” Nothing is automatic because of the natural man. Like every gift in Christ, it must be appropriated by faith. “How can I accomplish the things the Lord wants me to do?” We must trust Him with every action, every day. “Lord, I cannot do this, but You can.” You can love the unlovable, be bold when you are afraid, and do the things you cannot do, because “it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13).
