That Your Joy May Be Full

These were words of our Lord that the apostle John liked to quote.

After our Lord spoke to His disciples about abiding in Him and keeping His commandments, He says, “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” (John 15:11).

The Lord also told them to ask in prayer. “And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full” (John 16:23-24).

The apostle John told his recipients: “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full” (1 John 1:3-4). The apostles saw the Lord, and they relayed what they heard to the people. To have fellowship with them and what they taught is to have full joy.

The apostle told the church that seeing them would bring him joy. “Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full” (2 John 1:12).

Continuing to follow the Lord and obey Him, relying on Him for our needs, having fellowship with Him and seeing believers face to face are all commandments, but it is wonderful to acknowledge that we have fullest joy while doing so.
