Jesus, Which Was Dead, Whom Paul Affirmed to Be Alive (Acts 25:19)

But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive. (Acts 25:19)

To Festus, the risen Jesus was “superstition.” To the apostle, the risen Jesus was not according to his religion or his personal beliefs, but a historical fact: “whom Paul affirmed to be alive.”

There is no theological truth apart from historical truth; they are the same. If Christ crucified and risen again is theological “truth” without it be rooted in history, what good is it? Christianity is a false religion if Christ is not truly risen. The truth is one, both historical and theological.
