Jesus Christ Past, Present, Future

2021-11-22

Don’t look on the past with sadness. Don’t dwell on lost opportunity. If you think of anything in the past, remember that it was Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who died for your sins. He triumphed over that grave. All your sin, rebellion, shortcomings, and, well, everything, is nailed to that cross. Being born again, you are a new creature. That past does not define you. Today is a new day. If you think on the past, think on Christ and what He has done at Calvary.

Don’t look on the present with frustration. Don’t look on today as another obstacle before getting to the next vacation or weekend. The LORD’s mercies “are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:23). Jesus, once He showed Himself alive to the disciples, was enthroned on high at the right hand of the Father. He then sent His Spirit to impart that enthroned power to everyone who believes. That Holy Spirit is in you, Christian. You are “more than conquerors” (Romans 8:37) in the here and now. Praise Him today. If you think about the present, think about your position in Christ.

Don’t look on the future with either fear or ambition. You might wonder what horror awaits tomorrow, but “the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself” (Matthew 6:34). You might be tempted to look into the future with grandiose plans, but “ye know not what shall be on the morrow” (James 4:14). Look on the return of Jesus Christ. Think of the day when you will see Him face to face, when He “shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain” (Revelation 21:4). You will one day see that your hope in Christ is not in vain. If you think about the future, think about that glorious day.

Whether it is the past, present, or future, it’s Jesus.

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. (Hebrews 13:8)
