To Make Intercession for Them (Hebrews 7:25)

Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. (Hebrews 7:25)

The Lord Jesus is at the Father’s right hand forever making intercession for His people. Because of this intercession, the Lord can completely save us forever.

This verb “to make intercession” appears in a few other places.

And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us, ye see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me, both at Jerusalem, and also here, crying that he ought not to live any longer. (Acts 25:24)

In this case, we see that one can make intercession in a negative sense. The verb “have dealt” is this same word, and the Jews had been interceding to the Festus that Paul would die for his “crime” for being a Christian and an apostle to the Gentiles.

God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying, Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. (Romans 11:2-3)

Likewise, Elijah the prophet made intercession against the kingdom of Israel.

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27)

The Spirit of God makes intercession for us, praying on our behalf. We can be overwhelmed with something, not even able to articulate emotion and distress, but the Spirit translates that into prayer, which is intercession on our behalf.

Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. (Romans 8:34)

We are now beyond condemnation. The darkest forces of hell cannot condemn us, because Jesus lives. The blood of Christ satisfied the Father. The world’s forces cannot team up against us because they cannot team up against the blood of our Lord. Never lose sight how precious the life of Christ is before the Father, which has removed our record of sin.
