Instructions For Removing Evil From Your Home

2012-06-19

Psalm 101:7: “He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.”

When you get saved and decide to follow Christ, you will realize that things that you used to enjoy are a stark contrast to the things of God.

Those video games and movies where everyone kills each other and uses magic are a little different from what the Bible teaches:

Psalm 11:5: “The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.”

Leviticus 20:27: “A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.” Yes, this is your Harry Potter and your Lord of the Rings.

All those movies that portray sexual wickedness are contrary as well:

1 Corinthians 6:18: “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.” It sounds like we should literally be running away from those films.

How about that music that is sensuous and patterned after the world?

1 John 2:16: “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

I lived many years with this stuff in my house. I have struggled with all of the above, even in recent times. It was not easy in some cases to put these things to death. This short document will help you deal with some of these issues.

First, you go to the CD collection. Go through, disc by disc, and ask, is God pleased with this music? The vast majority of these items would probably be taken from the shelves. Repeat this process with the movies and books.

Second, take all of the video games and their consoles, such as Nintendo and Playstation, and place them with the CD and video pile.

Third, look for any other miscellaneous items. For me, there were weird things such as necklaces from my teenage years that looked like they were from the occult.

Next, you take all of these things to a wide open space. Gather wood and place them in a nice big pile. Place the junk you gathered from your home on top. Lastly, burn the pile of junk as a sacrifice to the Lord:

Acts 19:18-19: “And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.”

If burning is not possible because of where you live, then a trash can will do, but that is more dangerous because you may change your mind right before the trash man comes.

This is what I have burned in my experience:

  1. CDs (almost every genre of music was represented, including “Christian”)
  2. DVDs and tapes
  3. Books (Dragonlance and other books that deal with magic)
  4. A diary that recorded the wicked thoughts of my teenaged years (hundreds of pages)
  5. The weird necklaces mentioned above
  6. Playstation and Nintendo game systems along with all of the games

Interestingly enough, this is an ongoing experience: you will likely not find everything on the first try. You may realize that something is wicked that you did not before. It takes prayer and caution.

And that is it. When I got rid of all that satanic junk, I felt a huge relief. There was a freeing sensation when it was all gone. You too will experience this blessing if you are obedient of purging your house of every evil thing that offends.
