As Being Yourselves Also in the Body (Hebrews 13:3)

Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. (Hebrews 13:3)

What affects one person in the body of Christ affects everybody. Recall the commandment, “Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep” (Romans 12:15).

If you think of the local church as a close family, this would be helpful. When you see your own wife and children going through pain, it hurts you also. When they are joyful, you become joyful, too. This ought to be in the local church. What affects one affects all. It might not always be natural, hence the exhortation here.
