The Idol Shepherd (Zechariah 11:17)
2023-01-23
Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened. (Zechariah 11:17)
In the previous section, we read about the Lord Jesus Christ, who was rejected and crucified for 30 pieces of silver. Instead, another shepherd arises in favor of the Lord. It makes sense that this is most fulfilled in the Antichrist.
Unlike the Lord, the idol shepherd will not heal and lift up the people. Instead, we read this: “For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces” (Zechariah 11:16). Woe to that shepherd for the Lord will destroy him.
