I AM Statement #7: I Am the True Vine (John 15:1, 5)

2022-05-06

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman... I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. (John 15:1, 5)

If Jesus is the true vine, and we are His branches, that means that we are fully dependent on Him. We trusted Him to be saved. We daily trust that He will work in us the good works we were designed to do. He fulfills what Israel was supposed to do: “Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it” (Psalm 80:8), and “Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images” (Hosea 10:1). This is one of many ways how Jesus fulfills Israel of the Old Testament; He alone gives His people the strength required to be godly.
