The Ultimate Humility (Matthew 8:2-3)
2022-08-26
Jesus does what others can’t. To come to Jesus is to come to Him powerless. Whether it is salvation (which we clearly need a Savior outside of ourselves), or any other mountain that needs to be moved, we must admit that we can’t, but He can.
The leper worships and says, “Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean” (Matthew 8:2).
The Savior says, “I will; be thou clean” (Matthew 8:3), and the man was clean.
In our situation, maybe the Savior wills, or maybe He does not. But we trust in Him to do His will. We rest in His goodness, because whatever it is, we cannot do it.
Are we only powerless to save ourselves or move huge mountains? No, we can do nothing, for apart from Him we can do nothing. Even the little things. The Savior is needed for every task, spiritual or otherwise.
This calls for the ultimate humility, unto death. We can never say about anything, “Look at what I did!” If we did it on our own, then it has no value. I come to Him powerless. Or rather, I am just dead.
