The Spirit and the Word

The Holy Spirit always works in tandem with the Word of God. Compare the following:

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3:16)

...be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord (Ephesians 5:18-19)

These passages link the Spirit and the Word. Also, as we saw previously, it is “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:17).

You will not be filled with the Spirit without your mind being filled with the Word of God. Likewise, the Spirit is not going to do something contrary to the Word of God. Even if someone were to do miraculous signs from heaven, if they are contrary to the Word, it is not from the Holy Spirit.
