Unity of the Spirit

Some verses discussed by Ridout concerning being baptized into the church by the Spirit and the unity in the Spirit.

“Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you” (John 20:21). We as the church are the vehicle for the Spirit and the activity of Christ in this world.

“For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones” (Ephesians 5:30). We are members of the Lord Jesus.

“So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another” (Romans 12:5). We are also members one of another.

“Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular” (1 Corinthians 12:27). While we are members of Christ and of one another, we also retain our individuality and individual responsibility.

“Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3). The unity of the Spirit is the power of the positional unity we have in the body of Christ.

“Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment” (1 Corinthians 1:10). There are so many schools of thought out there within the church. Maybe we as Christians do not agree with every single doctrine, but we can seek unity as brothers in the Lord in the same body.
