Who Shall Dwell in Thy Holy Hill? (Psalm 15:1-2)

Who can make their home with the LORD? He tells us:

LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. (Psalm 15:1-2)

He who lives a righteous life and does works of righteousness is one thing. The other mentioned here is one who speaks “the truth in his heart.” How do we reconcile this with the heart being “deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9)? Nobody can. The Lord of heaven sees our innermost thoughts, and how dark they are. The rest of the psalm gives examples of the righteous life.

We cannot attain to this, but our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ could, and did. He may have died for our sins, wiping away our record of sin debt. But He also rose again, imparting to us His life, so we can also walk in and work righteousness. We can speak truth in our hearts, because He rose us to life. We rely on Him, and therefore, we do what is right. He has made us right with Him.
