Hold Thy Peace, and Come Out of Him (Mark 1:25)

We often do not think much about there being a spirit realm, like many cultures around the world believe. However, this spirit realm is a reality. These spirits are behind all world religion. Service to any god that is not the Creator is to a created spirit, an impostor who rebelled against God:
They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger. They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not. (Deuteronomy 32:16-17)
They are often territorial in nature; the Syrians erroneously made this assumption about the God of Israel:
And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. (1 Kings 20:23)
There are “princes” that stand behind the rulers of the world: “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia” (Daniel 10:13).
By these devils, the world is deceived: “Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2).
That is why it so significant when we see how Jesus confronts demons and has authority over them:
And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. (Mark 1:23-25)
What was the onlookers’ response? “What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him” (Mark 1:27).
Consider what the Word says. Christ has authority over every spirit. He is their Creator, and they rebelled against Him. They are subordinate entities and will be judged by Him in a final way in the future. Therefore, we can come to Jesus for everything because He is Lord of all, and everything must submit to Him.
