The High Places Were Not Removed

And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done; Save that the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burnt incense still on the high places. (2 Kings 15:3-4)

This was said of Azariah, or Uzziah, king of Judah. He was one of the good kings of the southern kingdom. However, one notices this was one of the things he left undone: the high places were left in place. His father and son did the same thing; only the best kings removed the high places.

It was not that the people who served in these high places necessarily were serving other gods. There was one place where they were to offer sacrifices, and this was in the Temple in Jerusalem.

It is of great error to think that we can come before the Lord in any way that we please. We need to come to Him in His way. The way to the Father is Jesus Christ only. There is no other path to salvation than by Jesus Christ. All other paths lead to hell.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)
