He Shall Save His People From Their Sins
2012-11-11
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)
This was the promise to Joseph of what Jesus was coming to do. Jesus came to save us from our sins. A beautiful thought to us who know that we are indeed sinners, grieved by our condition before God. God himself is the standard that he expects out of his people, and there is no way that we could meet that standard. A hopeless chasm separates us from God. But Jesus saved us from our sins:
“And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross” (Colossians 2:13-14).
The record of sins is gone. There is no more record of sin, ever again:
“As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12).
But God wanted more than us being saved from the penalty of sin, but that by walking in the Spirit, we should no longer be slaves to sin. Settle it in your heart that he will never abandon you. When you realize that God’s favor is not contingent upon performance, you will be set free to serve him in the power of his Holy Ghost.
