He Knoweth Not How (Mark 4:26-29)

The Word of God changes people. The seed of the Word of God bears fruit just by preaching it.

And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come. (Mark 4:26-29)

The preacher has little to do with this process. He does not know how the Lord bears fruit through this. He preaches the Word, and somehow, beyond his comprehension, people are saved, lives are changed, and fruit is produced apart from any effort of his. “He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him” (Psalms 126:6).
