Great Is Our Lord

Who is God, and how can we know Him? The Bible gives us the answers.
Genesis 1:1 tells us, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” What was before the beginning? Nothing other than God. Everything else had a beginning. You and I have birthdays. Houses were built. Trees were planted. But God had no beginning. He always was, and always will be. God will never stop being.
Psalm 147:5 tells us, “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.” Infinite means He has no bounds. His power has no limits; there is nothing He cannot do.
God is independent. We get tired, need food and drink, and need light to see in the dark. However, God never gets tired or needs food and drink. He can see no matter how dark it is. God does not need anything, ever.
God is a spirit (John 4:24). He does not have a physical body consisting of atoms, no flesh, and no bones.
God is everywhere, all the time. He is bigger than everything, and separate from the creation. He does not need to travel anywhere. He sees us and hears us no matter where we are. We cannot hide from Him, because wherever we would try to hide, He is already there (Psalm 139:7-8, Jeremiah 23:23).
God is before all and greater than all. He is the boss and the king over all things.
God is also a trinity. There is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. These are distinct personhoods, but are yet all God. It is a complicated subject, but this will suffice for now.
Since God was the only One who was present at the creation of the world, He is the only one qualified to tell us about it. Only He was there. Only He was everywhere, at all times, from eternity past to eternity future.
