Gospel Minute 6: Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ

If people are not saved from the lake of fire automatically, how can they be saved? Some imprisoned missionaries were asked this question, and this was the answer: “Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house” (Acts 16:30-31).
We must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. To believe is not some ethereal feeling or idle hope. In our vernacular, we might say that we trust in Christ. Jesus’ death for our sins and rising from the dead is not some nice moral lesson. These events are historical facts. We depend on Christ that He has delivered us from His wrath of the lake of fire. He died for us while we were enemies; He did not find something intrinsic about us that made Him favor us.
Notice what it does not say. It does not say anything about joining a church or being baptized or promising to do better or stop sinning. Those things must happen after you are saved; otherwise, they are meaningless or impossible.
