A Place of a Skull

And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull (Matthew 27:33)
And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull. (Mark 15:22)
And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. (Luke 23:33)
And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha (John 19:17)

The word for skull in Matthew, Mark, and John and the word for Calvary in Luke are the same word. The Lord began to carry His cross there, but then Simon the Cyrenian was compelled to carry His cross for Him. It is interesting that this place of death meant life for the world. The very name of the place foreboded suffering, death, and gloom. However, the death of our Lord will cause the gathering of and giving of life to dry bones on the day He will return.

He took our sin and gave us righteousness. He took our death and gave us life.
