Go, and sin no more (John 8:11)

Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. (John 8:11)

In this controversial passage, Jesus tells the woman caught in adultery to “go, and sin no more.” We have forgiveness of sins, which is great, but it is greater that we can have new life where we can choose not to sin. This statement is both a solemn warning and also a breathing of fresh new life upon us. Don’t we all want to be free from the trap of sin? Which is why, a little bit later, He told the crowd that remained, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).
